Fosters have kindly offered use of a Transit van when it comes to removing scrap metal and other items from G-ARPO during her dismantling and the period leading up to her removal from site. They’re on hand for any logistics help we need, so we really appreciate it.

Make sure you consider them for any tree or garden work you need to show them thanks.

These guys treated us incredibly well, spending time shuttling us around from terminal to fire station, to Trident and back again. They really were friendly and helpful, so a big thank you to all the guys there.

We spent time inspecting their Trident 2E, registration G-AVFE, which is now largely unused and has many parts still in good condition both inside and outside. Since these parts are largely interchangeable between Trident 1 and 2 aircraft, we could use many of these when restoring G-ARPO at Sunderland.

Subject to final go-ahead, we should be heading back to Belfast in April or May to bring back many of the parts.

I’ve attached a picture of the fire crew at Belfast International, who were kind enough to pull out one of their engines and pose for us. Thanks again guys!

This trip was paid for by ourselves, and no donation money went towards this. You can be sure that all money donated goes directly to G-ARPO.

Peter Foster is a new member of our team. He’s got a wealth of aviation experience, and has even saved a Lightning aircraft, restoring it fully. Peter was formerly a Senior Duty Officer at Durham Tees Valley (then Teesside) airport, and had the honour of being the last person to marshall G-ARPO when she arrived to take up post at the fire training school in 1983.

With Peter’s help, we have gained access to a Cherry Picker, and also should be able to remove a lot of the scrap metal inside the airframe that is no longer needed at no cost.

We look forward to his help in our bid to save G-ARPO.
